On 26th September 2011 a bat detector on Burton Road recorded a Nathusius' Pipistrelle make a 'single pass with a feeding buzz'. This is very exciting as this is only the 13th record of this bat for the whole of Derbyshire - ever!
On 29th October 2011 group members and members of the Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group checked and cleaned all our bat boxes. No bats were found but out of 14 boxes 7 had been used by species such as myotis, pippistrelle and the brown long eared bat (as seen on the left photographed Alan Roe of the Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group). If you are interested in bats and would like to find out more you can visit the Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group on www.derbyshirebats.org.uk.
We keep a detailed record of all wildlife sightings in our area and share them with other agencies such as The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and The Derbyshire Mammal Group. If you see anything please let us know either by e-mail to enquiries@findernfootpathsgroup.org or drop a note into the letter box at the Parish Rooms.
For a wildlife record to be useful for conservation purposes it must have 4 key elements:
WHAT - what species have you seen, be as specific as possible.
WHERE - location with a grid reference or post code if possible.
WHEN - time and date
WHO - your name and contact details
Other observations could include numbers seen and whether dead or alive.
